The State of Arizona Recognizes the Assyrian Genocide

To our dear friends in Arizona and abroad—we did it!

Today, March 3rd, 2020 the Arizona House of Representatives in a unanimous vote passed the HCR 2006 Assyrian Genocide: Remembrance Day. This resolution was introduced by Representative Nancy Barto (R) and brought to fruition by The Assyrian Genocide Research Center (Seyfo Center). HCR 2006 Assyrian Genocide: Remembrance Day was also co-sponsored by Representatives Jennifer Jermaine (D) and Frank Carroll (R). SEYFO Center is forever thankful to these amazing representatives for their courage and compassion!

We would also like to dedicate this resolution to the phenomenal Assyrian American community of Arizona. Without you, we could not have done it. You wrote hundreds of letters to your representatives. Over 20 Assyrian organizations voiced their support from here and abroad. And yes, those of you who wrote from overseas, who shared our posts and our call to action letter, this is also dedicated to you. Lastly, to our many nameless and faceless guardian angels who wish to remain anonymous; thank you for your tireless work!

In an unprecedented effort, and with a unified voice, we were able to document our history for the first time in the state of Arizona. United we stand!

We will work on Simele next!

May God bless you and our representatives!
